While National Friends of the Library week is over a month away, my letter to the editor made it into the local Poughkeepsie Journal newspaper.
Friends of LaGrange library deserve thanks
Oct. 19-25 is the ninth annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week, making it a good time to publicly thank Friends of the LaGrange Association Library, who give of their time and talents to enhance our community services. Over the past 12 years, they have donated more than $100,000 to cover the costs of children’s programming, new computers, new iPads, furniture and equipment. In addition to fundraising, they perform various tasks in our library, which help to keep our staffing costs down. Our volunteers pull “holds” items from the shelves, repair damaged books, clean DVDs, process new items and so much more. If you place a reserve on one of the 2.5 million Mid-Hudson Library System items and receive it within 24-48 hours, you have a volunteer to thank.
I know that the LaGrange Association Library is a source of pride for our community. Our Friends group is a source of pride as well. I encourage you to support this outstanding group by becoming involved. For more information, firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 845-452-3141.
