Birthday Yo…what?

While  trotting over to the LS building to collect a few of my ubber awesome readers in grade 1 this morning,  they were in the middle of their birthday celebrations.  Perhaps I need to have my hearing checked, because I thought that I heard Mrs. Ewert, our grade 1 teacher,   refer to their activity as ‘birthday yoda‘.  Immediately, my interest was piqued.

It turns out to be ‘birthday yoga‘. Since our friend Cade was turning seven,  he was invited to sit in the circle and  help perform seven rocking motions, seven downward dogs etc.

It was a great way to limber up and improve concentration for our friends before coming into the library for their STAR test.

Luckily, living in sunny Florida, we can  enjoy these yoga moves,  outside, all year-long.

And I am happy to say that all my grade 1 friends excelled in their reading tests afterwards!

ps. thank you Mrs. Thomas for your  camera skills!

While I am a librarian , I am a reading cheerleader. The purpose of this library blog is to better promote reading and information literacy to community. I love books, reading to my son, properly placed apostrophes, canoeing, locating the nearest Starbucks, cheering the Montreal Canadians, and Cherry Garcia ice cream.
