Spot the Empire Librarian's blog

Welcome to a librarian's online musings on libraries, literature and information media.

Summer highs and lows

Summer time is a mix of emotions. One of my many summer time duties is to manage and prepare the library collection for the needs of the upcoming school year. So, this means…… discarding older, unused, duplicate and damaged items…great sadness, I never relish this job. It is like saying goodbye to old trusted and loyal friends. Teachers will be invited to our ‘discard grab -n-go’ during Faculty Week in August 2012.

It also means ordering shiny new items to meet the needs of our ever evolving curriculum as well as spurring on our children’s interest in literacy. The first shipment of new books and videos have arrived. And now the cataloging will commence!

And as a side benefit…forts can be made with the Follett boxes!

While I am a librarian , I am a reading cheerleader. The purpose of this library blog is to better promote reading and information literacy to community. I love books, reading to my son, properly placed apostrophes, canoeing, locating the nearest Starbucks, cheering the Montreal Canadians, and Cherry Garcia ice cream.
